My Software Recommendations

This page is dedicated mostly to my favorite software and operating systems. All of these are FOSS, free and open source software and with one exception all are of these are used by me. I will include the name, a few sentences explaining what it does, my experience with it, or why I recommend it, and a link to the official website associated with the piece of software.

Ubuntu

Ubuntu was what introduced me to the world of Linux and I was introduced to it by Mutahar of SomeOrdinaryGamers. I love how it is light weight, when compared to Windows and is not too difficult to set up and use. I would feel comfortable giving it to my mother, who has little to no computer experience to use. I can personally vouch for Ubuntu 18.04 and 22.04.

Lubuntu is an amazing light weight Linux distribution built upon Ubuntu. I have a great small laptop from circa 2008. When I received this laptop in 2015 it was running Windows Xp and was still performing amazingly given the software and hardware. However about 4 or 5 months after using it, the ram blew out in it and so I had to take it to the people I received it from to repair it. When they fixed it they upgraded it to Windows 7, which essentially rendered that machine a paper weight. However, thanks to Lubuntu, that computer has received a second life. I would highly recommend it.

Audacity

Audacity is both a sound recorder and an excellent utility for sound editing. When ever I have to record or edit audio for a video, it is the only app I use for it. I have been using Audacity sine 2006 and used it to work on the final album my group released back in 2006.

Calibre

If you love E-Books, Calibre is a must. Calibre will help you organize your library, can open numerous document types, has apowerful docuent type converted, and with added pluggins can remove DRM, because fuck Digital Rights Management and fuck Amazon. If I buy something I should own it.

KDENLive is my video editor of choice. As a Youtuber, every single video of mine that has required editing has been made utilizing KDENLive.

VLC Player

VLC Player is a battle tested, tried and true media player I have been using since my university days. It has been said that VLC player would even play a brick and I believe it. Not only will VLC player play almost any format you could throw at it, it can even play incomplete and damaged files.
